Finland’s fifth nuclear power plant, when completed, will be Europe’s most up-to-date nuclear power station.

Traffic
Port of Vuosaari, Helsinki.
When completed, the port will be the main export harbour for Finland’s foreign trade. Our ongoing work includes project management, implementation tasks and site supervision. The client is the Port of Helsinki.
The project’s key figures are as follows:
- The Port’s total land area is approximately 150 ha; of this over 90 ha have been reclaimed from the sea for construction.
- 50 ha business area.
- Almost 20 million m3 of digging, excavation, dredging and earthfill.
- Dredging and filling works can extend to depths exceeding 30 metres.
- 4,000 m of quays consisting of a total of approximately 20 ship berths depending on the vessels’ sizes.
- Modern loading and container processing equipment.
- The project began in early 2003 and will be completed in late 2008.
- Total project costs approach EUR 300 million.
Environmental construction
Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant, St. Petersburg.
The Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant is St. Petersburg’s most modern and up-to-date facility of its type. The project encompasses the following:
- Complete wastewater treatment plant for 1,000,000 residents.
- The facility’s maximum capacity is 330,000 m3 of purified wastewater per day.
- Facility’s total floor area is 50 ha.
- The total investment costs of EUR 128 million also include the facility’s operation for 12 years following its completion.
- Our completed work included the management of temporary engineering tasks (according to FIDIC) that also included design approvals as well as site supervision from March to September of 2003.
- Client: St. Petersburg Waterworks (LLC Nordvod/ Vodocanal).
- Our partner: Helsinki Water.
Ämmässuo Waste Dump, Espoo
AHMA Engineers Ltd has concluded a framework agreement with the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council (YTV) for the production of project management services for the Ammassuo Waste Dump.
The most important projects at the Ammassuo Waste Dump are:
- Mixed waste processing plant, implementation during 2006–2008.
- Expansion area, implementation during 2005–2008.
- Finishing of existing fill area, implementation during 2005–2010.
- Biowaste treatment, implementation during 2005–2006.
- Pre-treatment plant for biowaste, implementation during 2007–2008.
The projects’ total cost estimate is approximately EUR 235 million.

Mines
Suurkuusikko, Kittilä
The Suurikuusikko Mine at Kittilä is Europe’s best-known gold deposit. Our commission includes the project management tasks related to the opening of the mine. The client is Agnico-Eagle Finland.
The project’s key figures are as follows:
- Annually 1 million tonnes of ore for processing; delivery period is 12-15 years.
- Annual excavations of open pit mine (ore + waste rock) 4-5 million tonnes per year, total 40 million tonnes.
- Length of open pit mine approximately 900 m, max width 400 m and depth approximately 150 m.
- Earth removals, approximately 1 million m3.
- Underground mine: Access shaft to depth of approximately 400 metres from surface, slope 1:7, cross section dimensions 5x5 m, length in initial phase approximately 3 km.
- Additionally, construction of roads, buildings, ditches, piping, electricity distribution and other similar items.
